Michael's Story

My name is Michael Toney. In May of 1999, I was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death for a horrible crime that was committed on Thursday, November 28^th, 1985.

On the evening of Thanksgiving 1985 in the Fort Worth, Texas suburb of Lake Worth, three members of the Blount family were tragically killed. Joe Blount, his daughter Angela and Angela’s cousin, Michael Columbus, were killed when a bomb that was contained in a briefcase exploded. The briefcase was reportedly found on or near the steps of their home.

I was convicted of this horrendous crime despite the fact that I did not even hear of the crime until 1997 when a man by the name of Bennie Joe Toole told me about it. I have never in my life been to the place the crime was committed and I am in no way whatsoever connected to the crime, the victims or anyone in the vicinity of the crime. I was convicted without a shred of evidence. The reason there is no (zero) evidence is that I am completely and unequivocally innocent of this crime.

I have known since my so-called trial that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Special Agents and the State of Texas investigators had to have somehow told my ex-wife, Kimberly, and my old friend and ex-business partner what to testify to. However, we could not find evidence to prove it until 2006 by what can only be described as a miracle.

We now know for absolute fact that Kimberly Cile Toney and Christie Klaud Meeks were manipulated and coerced into providing the testimony that caused me to be convicted of a terrible crime that I am completely innocent of and sentenced to death.

The testimony that caused my conviction was totally fabricated.

I do not make these assertions without being able to provide evidence to support them. The proof is contained here in this website, but in order to understand the case and how an innocent man was convicted, one must be intimate with the details and facts of the case.

“I composed this piece WITH Michael.
We had of it the idea during the exchanges of mail because we quickly found common points in the music - especially in the character of Guy Clark, whose Michael is also an admirer. There is a piece of Guy included on my last CD and dedicated to the Cowboy.

At the beginning, the idea was to write a line or a sentence each one with each letter but this method was a little hard and finally Michael gave me the elements necessary - especially concerning the rodeos - as well as principal topics, so that I can transform his ideas into music and words.

It was a true work with two! We thought of sending the piece to a singer (American) known - Guy Clark? Why not! - in the hope which it would be included in its repertory or on a disc so that Michael can profit from the publicity and/or the royalties. »

The trade-off was easy, they are at the time,
It meant nothin’ to me and it suited him fine,
And with an alibi stronger than an HT line I was in the clear for certain.

To Uncle Sam’s great US of A
It sure ain’t the truth gonna stand in the way of a lone-star state attorney.
So I’ll be thinking of the lawyers that don’t defend,
I’ll be thinking of wives and one-time friends,
And thinking of justice’s means to an end as I make that final journey.

Cos there’s a way out of every rodeo ride,
There’s a way out of love for a man denied,
But there’s nowhere to run when you’re hands are tied by the Texas state redeemer.
Now I was never one to run from a barroom fight,
As a kid I was never afraid of the night,
But I die inside when they turn out the lights on another death row dreamer.

Sometimes I get to dreaming I’m ridin’ again,
Grippin’ that rig as they open the pen,
Eight seconds away from heaven and all o’ them greenbacks, girls and glory.
But then I get to wakin’ and I know damn’ well
I’m in Livingston dying in a ten foot cell,
An innocent man in a man-made hell
Not a dollar to prove my story.
